OPEN MONUMENTS WEEKEND

Minnewater House

Thanks to Adrien Tirtiaux and Bruges Triennial 2024: Spaces of Possibility, the connecting route between the Site Sint-Jan and the Minnewater has literally surfaced. Tirtiaux not only uncovered the remains of that road for his temporary art installation, he went to talk to people who know the road all too well: nurses, paramedics, hospital staff. As this is what ‘the art of Conversation’ is all about, we went with him and made a documentary about the road and its history, present and future. This short film was screened in avant-première during Open Monuments Weekend in the former Minnewater clinic, which was partially opened to the public.

ABOUT MINNEWATER HOUSE

Minnewater House will become the new Huis van de Bruggeling (House of the People from Bruges), with a nursery and the House of the Child integrated into it. The studies to realise all that are in full swing, including to design the green area behind the building as a new city park, resistant to climate challenges. During Open Monuments Weekend, visitors were able to see the plans.

ABOUT THE FILM
The Making of ‘Under the Carpet’

This short documentary follows the making process of ‘Under the Carpet’, a three-part artwork by Adrien Tirtiaux for Bruges Triennial 2024: Spaces of Possibility that invites you to rediscover the connecting road between St John's Hospital and the Minnewater Clinic.

As the Belgian artist rolls up the moss carpet and re-exposes the old connecting road, Magda and Georges blow the dust off their memories of the place where they first met. After all, the road not only formed an essential link between two care institutions but also connected the lives of visitors, staff and local residents.
