8 MAY 2024

In this pop-up performance by Compagnie KRAK, 10 people walk into the city carrying a bench. Along the way, they invite random passers-by to join them in building the bench and sitting on it. A conversation ensues. They listen, they pay attention, they are present. At the end of each encounter, they invite that person to come to the closing moment later that day. After each meeting, they take their bench apart and go out again.

Bruges 2030 organised three Bench Invasions, one at Adrien Tirtiaux's artwork at the Bruges Triennial, one at Regina Coeli residential care centre and a Bench Invasion Junior with Bruges primary school De Tandem.

    Compagnie KRAK

With its first performance ‘Charlieston’ in 2008, Circus Krak (original name) toured throughout Southeast Asia and South America. Having gotten the taste for performing, the company continued touring at home in festivals and cultural centers. With a big desire to make something new, the company created ‘Kus!’

In 2020 the company started its artistic research project into the connection between artist and audience, and the connection between spectator and spectator. This research resulted in the installation performance ‘NIETS’ and the pop-up performance ‘BANK CONTACT’. Bringing people together, often with humour, has always been a central element in the evolution of Compagnie Krak.

  • Freinet Kindcentrum De Tandem

De Tandem is a child centre for children aged 0 to 12, located in a large, green estate in Sint-Kruis, Bruges. We are a place where education, upbringing, development, care and relaxation flow into one another. Children learn and play at De Tandem, inside and outside school hours, and can develop their talents broadly. Supervisors (teachers, child carers, care teachers, educators, volunteers, etc.) form one team. Our school follows the GO! curriculum and attainment targets. Childcare is recognised by Kind & Gezin. We start from the vision of Freinet, Malaguzzi, Gordon and Pikler.
